And I thought the Star Wars "Death Star" trench was long!

August 22, 1996

We finally got our water hooked up. As you can see from the photo a water trench can really create a mess. We are fortunate that there is a neighborhood well, thus avoiding the expensive job of drilling a well which so many new log home owners face. The water main was tapped while still under pressure. I would have liked to see how this was done but the contractor was here and gone before I knew it. Even after the water line trench was filled in we were left with a large mound of dirt which will hopefully settle over time. We also hooked up our temporary water at the same time so we now have a garden hose connected inside the walkout basement which will be replace with an exterior faucet when the plumbers do their rough in. The contractor is the same person that will do our septic field.

The septic contractor is a nice guy but he is a man of few words as Margaret found out the day she first met him. The conversation went something like:

Margaret: "Hello."
Septic Contractor: "Hi, you probably know who I am."
Margaret: "I think so, but maybe you should tell me."
Septic Contractor: "I'm Irvin" ....Awkward pause while Margaret waits for further enlightenment.
"We're working."
Margaret: "Okay...."

Margaret used to think our builder was reserved but after meeting the septic contractor she has revised her opinion.

You do meet all kinds of personalities in this business.
