Now that's thick siding!
August 21, 1996
The moment we have been waiting for finally arrived. Today the first course of logs was put on. The builder cuts the logs to size with a 14" miter saw and spikes them with long nails into the framing. He then uses a power planner to even out the butt joints at the ends. I have heard some builders use chain saws to cut the logs to size but this can give your home a ragged appearance at the seams. One of the reasons we selected our builder was that he had the right tools to do the job.
The easiest way to get logs to the back of the house was through the great room. So our great room was turned into a shop and our kitchen was stacked with logs. Guess Margaret needs to wait just a little while longer before she can host that buffet dinner open house she wanted.
