Green shingles to go with our green clad windows.

August 8, 1996

Our builder tried to sub-contract the roofing to someone locally but ended up doing it himself. I suspect the sub-contractor wanted too much money. I know this would have sped up the building process but I'm glad he is doing the roofing since I really appreciate his crews workmanship.

We didn't have enough shingles to cover the whole roof since we added on a three season room in back. So I had to order more from the local lumber yard. When I asked my builder how much I needed he said two should do it. I thought he meant two bundles, but apparently he meant two square. I had never heard this term before but one square equals 4 bundles. At least I got this straightened out early.

Since the new shingles won't arrive for at least three weeks I had the builder put 15#tar paper over the unshingled roof. This should provide at least 90% water proofing.
