Pouring the basement floor
June 14, 1996
The concrete floor in the basement and the garage were poured today. A sheet of plastic was laid down over the fill as a vapor barrier. Re-rod, metal support rods, was drilled into the foundation in areas were the concrete would not sit directly above the footers. After the concrete was poured it was smoothed flat with a machine that looks something like a box fan on a handle. I don't know what its called, but it certainly did a nice job.
We still have to pour a suspended concrete ceiling above the cold storage room. Now that the concrete floor is poured in the basement, the builders will be able to build a wooden box to support the suspended concrete ceiling when its poured. For those of you who are wondering about pouring a concrete ceiling its a cheaper alternative to using pre-stressed concrete slabs but it only works for small areas.
Were now ready for the framers!
