Unloading the Wilderness Log Home Lumber Truck.

May 14, 1996

When I arrived at the property at 8:00 am the Wilderness truck was already waiting for me. The first lumber truck was to arrive at 9:00 am but the driver got an early start and arrived at 7am. We took delivery of ½ our log home package because we just didn't have enough open space to store all the lumber. The lumber arrived on two large trucks and consisted primarily of framing and roughing materials. The rest of our lumber will arrive in about 6 weeks and will consist of our logs.

I was concerned the driver would refuse to drive into the subdivision since there is no turnaround at the end of the street, but he did not object to having to back out. We had some traffic congestion early on because my electrical contractor had chosen this same morning to install our temporary electrical pole. Fortunately he finished the job quickly and now we have electricity.

The all terrain fork lift I rented, arrived on time and much to my surprise they had driven it about 7 miles to the property at 35mph instead of trailering it. I guess the rental company really earned their $20.00 delivery fee!

I hired my builders crew to help unload and they immediately got to work unloading the lumber. Things went smoothly because the fork lift operator was very skilled and it didn't rain. If it had rained it would have been too muddy to unload the lumber onto the property and we would have had to place it all along the road until things dried up. Thank God for small favors.

Both trucks were unloaded by noon and everyone enjoyed Margaret's cold chicken lunch.
